For the purposes of our users’ privacy, the Center for Art Law, Inc., (the “Center”) collects personal information and is responsible for deciding how personal data is used and disclosed.
The following contains important information about the personal information we may collect, how it may be used, your rights vis-a-vis such information, how to contact us about our uses of your personal data and how to unsubscribe from our communications.
This policy applies to personal information we obtain through a variety of channels including your voluntary subscription to our mailing list, your use of our website, LinkedIn membership, Facebook membership, emails and other public sources.
Personal Information We Collect
Personal information collected by the Center typically includes names, occupations, affiliation and contact information (mailing and email addresses, phone numbers). It comes from people who have registered for an event organized by the Center, people who have intentionally joined our mailing list or people who have authorized us or their agents to subscribe them to our mailing list.
We use personal information to respond to queries in relation to our events and services and to inform our subscribers about the events, publications, cases and news in the field of art and law. This may include sending you our e-newsletter, invitations and reminders.
In addition to asking for the Center to be added as our subscribers, in some instances people who register to attend our events make their basic information (name and contact details) available to third-party providers such as PayPal and Eventbrite. Use of any information collected through these third-party providers by the Center may include sending thank you letters, invitations to events and fundraising campaigns.
You should be aware that when you provide information to us using a third-party site or platform, the information you provide may be separately collected by the third-party site or platform. The information the third-party site or platform collects is subject to the third-party site or platform’s privacy practices. Please also keep in mind that our site, itsartlaw.com, and services we provide may contain links to other sites and we have no responsibility for other organizations’ and sites’ privacy practices.
We reserve the right to share your basic personal information, such as your name and your contact details, with a third-party venue or host for the event, for security and other related purposes. We do not authorize third-party providers to use your information for their own purposes, unrelated to the Center’s marketing.
While we provide information to people who have joined our mailing list through electronic communications and aim to limit our communications to informing you of related art law developments, you may unsubscribe from our communications at any time by contacting us in the manner described below or by clicking on the link that appears at the bottom of every newsletter and email from us.

– Individuals who contact us for a consultation
Any personal information collected from you electronically for the purposes of providing you with reference and other information may be used for the intended purpose of answering your inquiry and delivering to you the information we believe may be relevant to your set of circumstances.
– Individuals who contact us for a position (internship, fellowship, employment, etc.)
We will use the personal information supplied to us by the applicants to process your application. We may seek references, with your permission. Personal information offered to us by unsuccessful candidates may be held for a reasonable period after the recruitment exercise has been completed, after which it will be deleted.
Please note that we do not procure personal information by buying or renting information about you from third parties. All the information we have about you has been either provided by you or is publicly available.
We will not share your personal information with third-party organizations for marketing purposes. The security and confidentiality of your information are extremely important to us. Please be aware that, no security measures are perfect.
We use third-party payment providers (PayPal, Eventbrite and Facebook) to process payments and therefore do not collect or process any payment information. We use a communications company, MailChimp, to process email communications to you. These service providers are committed to employing reasonable safeguards to protect the confidentiality and security of your personal data.
Personal information collected via LinkedIn, Instagram and other third-party services and platforms are used to share information with you which we consider to be of legitimate interest to you as a subscriber, member, associate or alum of the Center.
The Center aims to use persona data respectfully and when we contact you, it is typically in relation to products and services such as events, news and reminders. We consider that we have a legitimate interest in using your personal information to do so because we believe that the information will be of interest to you, that telling you about it by email or post is a proportionate and reasonable way of informing you and that such communications are something you expect to receive from us from time to time and do not override any rights you have in relation to your personal information.
We disclose personal information where required or otherwise permitted by law.
At any time, you may opt to stop receiving communications from the Center by clicking the ‘unsubscribe’ button at the bottom of each email or by contacting us by any other means.
Duration of services
The Center reserves the right to keep your personal information as long as we continue providing our related services, unless you chose to remove your information from our mailing lists. From time to time, we send out messages to our subscribers to confirm their ongoing interest in the Center’s work and mission and we reserve the right to delete your personal information. Reasons to remove personal information may include but are not limited to subscribers becoming inactive. Data may persist in copies made for backup for additional time.
Our website contains links to other websites which are outside our control and are not covered by this privacy notice. Examples include Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. The Center is not responsible for the privacy policies of such external websites and you are encouraged to refer to the appropriate policies of such sites directly for information about the personal information which they may collect and how they use it.
Your rights to your personal data
We recognize and respect your rights in relation to the personal data we hold about you, including:
- the right to know about how we use your personal information. You may request information about our uses of your personal information by writing to us in the manner outlined below;
- the right to request a copy of your personal information. You can request a copy of the information which we hold about you by contacting us in the manner described below. When making such a request, please provide proof of your identity and address (a copy of valid state or country issued ID, such as your driving license, passport, or a recent utility or credit card bill) and let us know what information you require. There is no charge for providing the information requested unless we consider your request to be excessive, in which case we reserve the right to charge a reasonable fee;
- the right to correct any mistakes in the personal information we hold about you. Changes may be made either by writing to us or by updating your personal information in our mailing list directly;
- the right to restrict or delete your persona information from our mailing list;
- the right to move, copy or transfer your personal information in certain circumstances (allowing you to obtain and reuse the personal data we hold for your own purposes).
We understand the importance of protecting the privacy of children. We therefore do not knowingly market to, collect or maintain personal information from persons under 13 years of age. We will take appropriate measures to delete any personal information we discover to relate to persons under 13 years of age.
