Tribal Art Hunter, Esq. or not

Tribal Art Hunter, with Stacey A. Giulianti, Esq. as it’s Managing Director, is an art consultancy business for nationwide clients. The new business specializes in ethnographic art and will “will assist clients in purchasing historical artwork of the highest provenance, negotiating prices, appraising artifacts, and assembling collections for customers of all levels and interests.”

The new outfit aims to cater to the one-time purchasers and to long-term collectors. According to Giulianti, Tribal Art Hunter is “unique in the field, providing independent consulting advice and research for artifact purchases. While many talented generalists offer their services as art consultants, Tribal Art Hunter is dedicated to bringing the best of our historic cultural legacy into the present.”

What kind of animal is Tribal Art Hunter? Gallery? Consultancy? Hybrid? Will they advise on works that have been in the United States since the 19th and early 20th century or facilitate import of new objects? Cases of interest might be U.S. v. Hollinshead, 495 F.2d 1154 (1974) (addressing Guatemalan law regarding cultural artifacts); U.S. v. McClain, 545 F.2d 988 (1977) (dealing with pre-Columbian artifacts from Mexico);  U.S. v. Schultz, 333 F.3d 393 (2003) (dealing with Egyptian antiquities).
