Extra Extra! Courthouse News Reports on the 9th Circuit Doubleheader with Nazi-Plundered Art Appeals

Writing for Courthouse News Report, Matt Reynolds presents details about two important cases on appeal – Von Saher v. Norton Simon Museum of Art at Pasadena, 592 F.3d 954, 2010 U.S. App. LEXIS 1019 (9th Cir. Cal. 2010) and Cassirer v. Kingdom of Spain, 616 F.3d 1019, 2010 U.S. App. LEXIS 16707 (9th Cir. Cal. 2010). On August 22nd, both cases were heard by a three-judge panel and their decision on the disputes are most eagerly awaited by restitution proponents and opponents.
Reynold’s report starts as following “The heirs of European art collectors urged the 9th Circuit to put aside their diplomatic concerns and order a pair of museums to return paintings stolen during the Holocaust.”
