The Art Market Affair: Distinguished Lecture with Marcus Asner
October 28, 2024
About this Event
Ever since the Spring of 2015, the high-profile dispute between billionaire collector Dmitry Rybolovlev and Swiss middle man Yves Bouvier has captivated the art world. The case spanned the globe, leading to investigations and litigation in Monaco, Singapore, Geneva, Paris, London and ultimately New York. The dispute culminated earlier this year in federal court here in Manhattan where, after a 3 week trial, a New York jury ruled in favor of Sotheby’s, rejecting Rybolovlev’s claims that Sotheby’s had aided and abetted Bouvier’s alleged fraud.
During the 2024 Distinguished lecture, held at NYU, Marcus Asner of Arnold & Porter, lead counsel for Sotheby’s defense, presented his perspective on the legal and investigative twists and turns of the long ordeal, as well as a few of the lessons learned along the way.
