Whether it’s protecting art as an intellectual property lawyer or creating art that represents legal issues, the relationship between art and law has always been intriguing. Just as there are several perspectives to understanding art, there are also several facets of being a lawyer. They can be anything they wish to be, including artists.
Join us in this conversation with Oriane Cannac and Stephanie Drawdy where we covered everything art and law-related from the perspective of both artists and lawyers, as we reconciled our passion for the field beyond the legal profession.
About our Speakers:
Oriane Cannac is an associate at Winston & Strawn London who focuses her practice in international arbitration and commercial litigation. During the pandemic, Oriane created Law & Art, a virtual gallery aimed at exhibiting art made by lawyers from around the world. Law & Art’s mission is to bring to light outstanding pieces of art made by individuals who are lawyers by day and artists by night, and to create new links and cross-border connections between individuals who share an interest in art.
Stephanie Drawdy is an artist and attorney licensed to practice in New York and South Carolina. Stephanie focuses on art restitution and human rights in her ongoing painting series entitled Elicit Justice. Her writing projects and podcast, Warfare of Art and Law, focus on a range of arts related issues, including restitution and artists’ rights. Stephanie offers arts education through Art Haus for Justice, a non-profit opened to assist creatives, especially victims of human trafficking, grow through art. Through Art Haus for Justice, Stephanie also hosts Second Saturday Art + Justice, a monthly online meeting to discuss how art can create positive social change.
The conversation will be moderated by Irina Tarsis, art historian, attorney, and the founding Director of the Center for Art Law.
