Art & Copyright Law Clinic (April 2024)
April 10, 2024
About this Event
Although AI has been around for years, it entered the mainstream at the end of 2022 thanks to OpenAI and image generators like Midjourney and Stable Diffusion. These applications allow users to turn selfies into stylized “portraits” or text into “paintings.” The proliferation of generative AI has prompted many artists to worry about their copyright and what actions can be taken to prevent tech companies from taking their work to train AI models. Is generative AI a new tool that can augment the artistic process, or is it another Silicon Valley trend with negative consequences? What effect does this technology have on artists’ licensing market? What do government bodies like the Copyright Office or Federal Trade Commission have to say about generative AI?
The Art & Copyright Law Clinic was designed to help emerging and established artists navigate the current copyright law landscape. Watch the Center for Art Law’s inaugural session of the Art & Copyright Law Clinic, to learn more about copyright law in 2024.
