Workshop on Insurance & Art: Pitfalls to Avoid and Promises to Keep
February 15, 2024
About this Event
As an art professional, you play an integral role in transactions. Terms that may seem simple to negotiate in a given transaction can often become more complex when unknown issues arise. Advanced knowledge of any pertinent information can help guide your decision-making and negotiation strategy. It is crucial for art professionals to understand the intricacies of art insurance, key principles, and protection strategies – as well as risk exposures that could impact your business and your clients – prior to negotiating a transaction.
The Center for Art Law hosted a discussion about art insurance with Anne Rappa, Senior Vice President, Huntington T. Block Insurance Fine Arts Insurance & Risk Management Expert, to consider several important questions including:
- What art insurance policies are available in the marketplace?
- What is the coverage difference between a collection insurance policy, an art dealer insurance policy, and an artists insurance policy?
- What are potential problems to be aware of pertaining to transactions, including legal issues?
- What are key contractual terms to be aware of?
The session helped answer these questions and more to inform your negotiation and decision-making for future art transactions, and to mitigate risk exposures for you and your clients!
