Art Law Blast
November 2026

NICE is nice.

Dear Readers,

What comes next? Art imitates life, and law imitates sport: marathons, elections, force majeure, no rest for the weary. (Wouldn’t it be NICE to sit and listen to the water rushing over the rocks?) Yet, there is always more work to do, fortunately, together, we are up to it. Just take a look at our inspiring, hot-off-the-presses FY2026 Annual Report and Judith Bresler Fellowship Annual Report.

With fewer than two months left in 2026 and election season behind us, it’s time to fun(d)raise: our year-end goal is $50K. With blue-chip auctions on the horizon, that’s just a drop in the art world ocean, and it will help us meet our FY2027 goals.

Of course, fundraising cannot be all we do between now and December 31st, so please mark your calendars for the following events, help get the word out, and celebrate what we have done together (reaching 10K Instagram followers, making the Top 10 Art Law Blogs, and goofing over fundraising ideas).

  • WORKSHOP: Catalogue Raisonnés & Legacy Stewardship for the Future, Tuesday, November 10, 2026, ET, Online, RSVP
  • COLLOQUIUM: Looted, Forged, and Collected: The Hobby Lobby Antiquities Scandal, Thursday, November 12, NOON ET, Online, RSVP
  • CLINIC: Artist Legacy & Estate Planning, Wednesday, November 18, 2026, PM ET, Online, RSVP
  • BOOTCAMP: Art Lawyering: Copyright Law, Monday, December 7, 9 AM – 5 PM ET, In Person, RSVP
  • CLE: ABCs of Art Law: H is for Heist, Tuesday, December 15, NOON ET, Online, RSVP

All of our events are free or discounted for premium members. Become a member. Give to the year-end campaign (so we can get back to our pet projects). Pick your soundtrack for meditating on the state of the world, and onwards with art law!

Onwards with art law,
Irina Tarsis and the Center for Art Law Team

We hope that you can join our esteemed panelists Alex Haskell (General Counsel & Head of Global Affairs, Eleven Labs), Ruth O’Farrell (Vice President & Associate General Counsel, AI & Content Partnerships, News Corp), and Will Page (Economist & Strategic Advisor, former Chief Economist, Spotify) in a wide-ranging discussion moderated by Divya Taneja (Partner, Ashurst Perkins Coie) around negotiation and drafting considerations, factors that might impact the scope and value of a license, and what success looks like for the stakeholders on both sides of the deal.
